Edit metadata in Books?

I assume the feature has fallen to the continued dumbing down the OS and apps in general. "If it generates x number of support call, remove the feature." Support calls mean more than feature requests to the bottom line. We can want the feature back all we want. It costs them $0 to ignore us.

I guess a third party tag editor has to be used.... you know... tech from 2002.

You should be able to edit this metadata using the Music app. The only trick is that Music will change the metadata on its own copy of the file. Then you have to track down that modified file and open it in Books. To make it more interesting, in Music, you have to Get Info, then choose the File tab. Scroll down to location. That is somewhat the path to the file. You will need to remove the first component of that path.

Then, in Finder, choose "Go to folder" from the Go menu. Paste in that modified path. It will open a new Finder window with the file selected. Now you can open it in Books and see the modified metadata.

Hi there. Thank you for the reply. In this case, I am only wanting to change the tag for the name. In book, I cannot find any menu for editing or displaying details for the file. They are downloaded, files. No DRM.

Right-clicking the book in list view shows, Listen, Share, Add to collection, Create collection, and Delete. There is nothing more in the menu options.

I have 9 books of a series, but two of them have "The" at the start of the title, so they sort incorrectly.

I'd wondered about this, but as you have pointed out, it would be somewhat annoying.

This is another example of the lack of user experience continuity between apps made by the same company, and shipped in the same OS. If tags can be edited in an app that plays audio files, it should be possible in another app that plays audio files.

Regardless, thank you for the reply!
