Samsung T7 SSD with Macbook air M2

Yes.

When you first connect the SSD use Disk Utility to format the drive. Everything on the drive will be deleted when performing this initial format.

I figured it out. The T7 software comes with an encrypted passcode option that wasn't locating on my new computer. I plugged it in to my old computer that I originally set this up on. From there I was able to enter my passcode, update the firmware, and remove the encryption. This allowed me to plug the SSD into my new macbook and it works great now.

I think it fair to inform those that are using Samsung's preloaded software that when you use software from just about any manufacturer for their storage device you run the risk of that same software not being compatible with macOS updates / upgrades. it can cause the software to stop working. at best this will cause you a headache. at worst it can render your data inaccessible. it is always best to use disk utility to erase and format a drive before use to remove any preloaded software. and Samsung's software is known to fall into that category.

so, if you formatted it and then reinstalled the "latest drivers" you are indeed using Samsung's software. so, did you or did you not install those drivers after formatting the drive?

I also have been having a lot of issues with t7 -> macbook air 2022 connectivity. 0 problem on any other device. Did Apple screw up this iteration of the air’s usb c ports?

That’s pretty bizarre, but that’s definitely not my issue. My drive is not encrypted and it’s also updated with the latest drivers.

Yes that is a good reminder but to be clear, I reformat all my drives and so my problem is, again, irrespective of that user-controllable course of action.
