Stream video from iPhone to roku

What video format does the video have to be in in order to stream it to my Roku using AirPlay? I often get an error message that airplay does not support the video format when I try to stream it to Roku

iPhone 5c, iOS 10

It will depend on where the video source is located.

  • Streaming video from a source locally on the iPhone utilizes the H.264 MPEG format without compression.
  • Streaming video found on the Internet, the AirPlay-enabled device will open a direct connection to the Internet source. The device is being authorized to access that source and no actual streaming occurs between the iPhone and the AirPlay-enabled device.

Use the steps below to set up HomeKit and add your Roku device to the Home app.

  • Press Home on your Roku remote.
  • Scroll and select Settings.
  • Select Apple AirPlay and HomeKit.
  • Select HomeKit.
  • Select Set up.
  • Use the camera on your iPhone or iPad to scan the eight-digit HomeKit code you see on your TV screen.
