Could a piece be broken inside the port on the iPad ?

hi , I am using my original charging cord but it doesn’t seem to want to stay charging , I have forced a restart multiple times and still doesn’t help. Can a piece inside the port on the iPad be broken? Also how can you tell if your iPad is to cold?
