iPad file could not be copied because not enough free space is available (file sharing)

I am trying to copy a movie file through file sharing (VLC) on itunes to my ipad but i get an error message that the file could not be copied because not enough free space is available. However i see that there is more than enough space required to copy the file. I was wondering what causes this and how do i fix this. Any help would be much appreciated.

Perhaps the error relates to insufficient space within the HDD partition of your PC…?

Otherwise, If your iPad internal storage is full (as opposed to your iCloud storage), you may need to better manage the storage that you have - and delete unused Apps and/or unneeded data.

“Offloading” Apps can be a helpful method of creating temporary space for a software update or large file transfer:

External storage options can often help with managing limited internal storage - especially for transfer of large video files from your computer to your iPad. Depending upon your iPad model, the iPad will either have a Lightning or USB-C port - and may therefore require either an Adapter or USB hub to connect the USB Storage device. If your iPad has a Lightning port, you’ll need an Apple Lightning to USB3 Camera Adapter:
