Apple Music: Incorrect album artwork

Why has my album artwork gone haywire in Apple Music ? Some of my albums that used to have the correct artwork have somehow acquired incorrect artwork, eg albums acquiring artwork from podcasts, or artwork from totally different albums. Suspect this happened in the transition from iTunes to Music. Seems to be worse on iOS.

Hey Anon-M-Mous,

Since you haven't received any answers, we like to ask some questions that may help.

  1. Do you have a subscription either with Apple Music or iTunes Match?
  2. Were some of the songs purchase and/or importing from CDs?
  3. Is Sync Library turned on? Here's the information to help you find out: Turn on Sync Library with Apple Music .
  4. Are both devices up-to-date? macOS 12.5 and iOS 15.6.
  5. Does closing the app and restarting the devices help?

Take care.

Anon-M-Mous,

Since your music was manually added, test this with a song you can easily add back to your iTunes library. Remove one of the affected songs with the incorrect artwork and add it back from your purchases in the iTunes Store with the steps below from the resource titled Redownload Music. Close the Music app and check to see if the artwork remains intact.

"Redownload music in the iTunes Store app on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

  1. Open the iTunes Store app.
    • On your iPhone or iPod touch: At the bottom of your screen, tap More More button, then tap Purchased.
    • On your iPad: Tap Purchased.
  1. Tap Music. If you use Family Sharing, tap a family member’s name to see music that they purchased.
  2. Find the music that you want to redownload, then tap it.
  3. Tap the download button Download button next to a song or album."

Regards.

Hi Sheree_P,

Here are the answers to your questions:

1) No.

2) Yes, both purchased & imported from CDs

3) No, I can't see the option called Sync Library, probably because I don't use Apple Music. However, when backing up the iPhone to my MacBook Air the Sync Music option is turned on.

4) Yes, both devices up to date.

5) Unfortunately no.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Hi ryane77,

Tried this, unfortunately didn't it work. As an example, one of the albums I copied from CD onto my Mac years ago is listed on the iTunes Store, but is not listed there as having been purchased. This is one of the albums that somehow acquired the artwork from a podcast I subscribe to !

I noticed that within More - Purchased on my phone it says Recently Purchased not Purchased, implying that albums not recently purchased are not shown.

It just occurred to me that a few years ago I had to change my Apple ID. Could a change of Apple ID break my linkage with ownership of these albums ?

Regards,

Anon-M-Mous
