Hi, I have a 2008 iMac and a 2022 Macbook. I'd like to use my iMac as an external monitor. Is it possible to do this? Would I need to get a mini DVI to Thunderbolt 3 adapter? Does such a thing exist? Thank you!

The 2008 iMac does not support target display mode, so you cannot use it as external display.
You can try to use an external solution like Luna Display.

Sorry but the 2008 is way too old to support Target Display Mode and the new iMac is too new to support it. Please read the information in Target Display Mode (Target Display Mode) which supports what I am stating.
My suggestion is to simply buy an external display for the new Mac. This is much more simple, less expensive (does not require expensive cables) and is much much more reliable than Target Display Mode ever was.
