Networks disappeared

I came back from holidays with my Mac and now my home network has disappeared. In fact not even neighbours show up. Everything is gone and when I try to go to connect my network it can’t find it. When i try and turn it on it on my network preferences it don’t allow.

Hi Set The Barr,

To clarify, your Mac seems to connect briefly, but then your network doesn't appear in the list of available networks when you click the Wi-Fi icon. Is that right, or are you experiencing something different?

Depending on what you've tried already, the steps below might help.

  1. Click Apple menu () > System Preferences > Network
  2. Click Wi-Fi in the left-hand column
  3. Click Advanced in the lower right
  4. Click the Wi-Fi tab

If your network shows here, try clicking it and then clicking the - at the bottom to remove it. Then see if you can re-connect. You can also clear out any unused networks while there. If you have multiple networks there and your home network is lower in the Preferred Networks list, that could account for what you're seeing.

If the issue persists, try booting your Mac into safe mode. This will help to rule out a few potential software issues, including login items and third-party software: How to use safe mode on your Mac - Apple Support

"Apple silicon

  1. Shut down your Mac.
  2. Turn on your Mac and continue to press and hold the power button until you see the startup options window.
  3. Select your startup disk, then press and hold the Shift key while clicking “Continue in Safe Mode.”
  4. Log in to your Mac. You might be asked to log in again.

Intel processor

  1. Turn on or restart your Mac, then immediately press and hold the Shift key as your Mac starts up.
  2. Release the key when you see the login window, then log in to your Mac.
  3. You might be asked to log in again. On either the first or second login window, you should see ”Safe Boot” in the upper-right corner of the window."

Let us know the results! Take care.
