2nd Generation Apple Pencil on a 9th gen Ipad

I understand that "officially" a 2nd gen. Apple pencil is not "compatible" with a 9th generation ipad. However, they are currently priced the same; therefore, i would like to purchase the 2nd gen version.

Besides the power connector (lgth vs. usb-c) what are the "compatibility" issues?? The power issue is easy to solve in that just connect it to a Mac for charging.

Will the 2nd gen pencil not connect?? I understand that the ipad may not support all the features, but at a minimum will it work the same as 1st gen?

The first and second generation Pencil use an entirely different pairing and charging interface.

The second generation Pencil can only be used with iPad models that have the magnetic/inductive dock that is exclusively designed for the Pencil. Charging is controlled via the iPad magnetic dock.

The first generation Apple Pencil uses the physical Lightning port of the Pencil and host iPad for both pairing and charging the first generation Pencil. The first generation Pencil can also be charged using an inline charging adapter and the iPad’s Power Adapter. This pencil can only be used with compatible iPad models that have a Lightning connector; recent models of iPad that feature a USB-C port lack any means by which to pair with a first generation Pencil.

In summary, the Apple Pencil models are not interchangeable - and can only be used with the iPad that has appropriate internal hardware.

Here is the definitive compatibility list for Apple Pencil and iPad:

There are several aftermarket systems to charge the pencil So power/recharging is Moot My question was rather there is a way to activate the Bluetooth module in the pencil (either via a button or an external magnet) From the above messages, this question appears to be moot as well as the pencil is unable to communicate with the iPad even if you could create a Bluetooth connection.

To repeat the fundamental point - Apple Pencil models are not interchangeable. An Apple Pencil can only be used with iPad models that have the corresponding/appropriate internal hardware.

To cite a simple analogy - a square peg doesn’t fit a round hole.

not a great analogy in that both pencils use Bluetooth technology. The point is that the “2022” iPads have a magnetic switch to activate the pairing feature of the 2nd gen pencil. Also, I am guessing that the digitizer feature of the pencil is not compatible with the 9th gen iPad A better analogy would be a newer Bluetooth speaker not working with an older computer because of a change in Bluetooth technology

That’s fine As I said There are several aftermarket chargers (so the iPad’s inability to charge is moot). So the root of my question is rather someone had worked out using a “magnet” to activate the Bluetooth sensor on the pencil (which also appears to be moot as the pencil provides a completely different data feed to the device which the 9th gen cannot understand) The latter was ultimately the question (the pencil appears to use a different Bluetooth communication technology-square peg into a round hole)
