Update to 12.5 resulted in a reboot loop

I tried to update a Mac VM from 12.2.1 to 12.5 and it ran overnight apparently getting stuck. I forced a reboot, and then it entered a reboot loop. So I reverted the VM and am trying again. It appears that it got stuck almost immediately. Is there any way to get the update to proceed or do I have just blow away the VM and start fresh?

Mac Pro, macOS 12.1

When your Mac keeps restarting again and again, there might be some serious issues that you need to fix immediately. The issues can be related to Hardware or Software.

To fix hardware related issues:

1. Check the peripheral devices connected to your Mac

2. Check the internal RAM or any 3rd party hardware on your Mac

To fix software related issues:

1. Check for pending updates

2. Boot Mac in safe mode

3. Reset PRAM/NVRAM/SMC

4. Repair Mac drive using Disk utility

5. Clean your disk

6. Reinstall MacOS

Hope this will help!

Terminal command below

 softwareupdate --fetch-full-installer --full-installer-version xx.x

Substitute the xx.x in above with the earlier version as per those listed in my earlier reply

Notations;

1 - the exact spacings in above command must be kept or the command will fail

2 - if it works and it should as I have used it many times successfully, it will download the Full Version of macOS.

3 - it will be about 12.xx GB

4 - it will place a new application in Applications folder called " Install Monterey "

5 - it will Not Launch Automatically

6 - personally, I usually copy the Install Monterey in Applications folder to an External Drive, just incase I need it again and / or what to make a USB Installer

May consider an intermediate step up from 12.2.1

softwareupdate --list-full-installers

Finding available software

Software Update found the following full installers:

* Title: macOS Monterey, Version: 12.5, Size: 12112497KiB, Build: 21G72

* Title: macOS Monterey, Version: 12.4, Size: 11819688KiB, Build: 21F79

* Title: macOS Monterey, Version: 12.3.1, Size: 11938730KiB, Build: 21E258

Update to 12.5 resulted in a reboot loop
