Workgroup Manager Dock setting for users/ network drive auto mapped

Hi guys,
I have got the OS X Leopard server work with AD (touch wood)...
I would like to manage the dock items for different group of users:
Such as Word, Powerpoint... for group 1 in dock, and different shortcut for group 2. I can use the Workgroup manger to manage the dock, the problem is there is no application icons (which are on the Macbooks) on the server, how to I make it happen?
The second question is how can I get the network drive auto mapped when different user group log on?
Thank you very much for your help.

Mac Mini, OS server 10.6, Mac OS X (10.6.4), win server 2008

Hi

You can tackle this a number of ways:

Install the applications on the Server. Unless you're planning on using the server as a workstation (bad idea) what would be the point? The best way (IMO) is to install WorkGroup Manager on a workstation that has the applications installed. You can use WorkGroup Manager anywhere you like. Connect using the Server's IP address and authenticate to the LDAP node using the appropriate account credentials. Apply your Dock MCX as seems appropriate to you.

Again you do this on client workstation with WorkGroup Manager installed. Set up your Groups and Shares as seems appropriate to you first. On the client workstation with WorkGroup Manager installed, launched and connected to the LDAP node, select the Finder and from the Go Menu select "Connect to Server". Supply the Server's IP address. Authenticate using the Server's admin account - not the LDAP admin account - don't tick the keychain manager option. Select the Shares you're interested in. Verify they've mounted on the desktop. You may have to enable the appropriate connected servers option in the Finder Preferences. In WorkGroup Manager select the Group you're interested in. Click on the Preferences icon. Click on Login. Click on Items. Click on Always. Drag the appropriate share for the desired Group into the window. Tick the "Authenticate selected share point with user's login name and password". Click Apply Now followed by Done. There should now be a small arrow-like symbol beside the Login Icon in the Preferences window. Tackle the rest of the Groups in the same way.

These are popular questions which have been answered many times. A search of the forum should have revealed something.
