You can create a pdf by selecting "print". You'll get a screen that says "Print Options". At the bottom is a preview. Use two fingers to make the preview fill the whole screen. Tap the share icon in the lower left (box with an arrow coming out of it). Then, tap "Save to Files". Select where you want to save your pdf.
Note that this works with pretty much any app with a print function. I use it for printing out web pages all the time.

You would need a pdf add-in installed on your Word document ie. Adobe, Kofax. But you can ask Microsoft or look at their support site for more details.

Besides the PDF option IdrisSeabright mentioned, you can also choose PDF as an output right from Word by doing a Save As.
I didn't see that option on my iPhone. Is it available on the iPad?
If you have a word processor like Word (cost money) or Open Office (completely free), you can edit the file then File->Export to create a PDF. Also, recent versions of MAC OS and Windows allows you to do a Print->Create PDF file.
On iPad, you can save it as PDF by going to Files, selecting the Word file, then tap the Action menu at the bottom left corner. Choose Convert to PDF, and it will be done.
On iPhone it’s actually Export. Click the … button in the upper right-hand corner and select Export.

Good to know. Thanks!
You’re welcome!
D'oh! I finally noticed this topic is in the iPad forum. My response was for the desktop version.
