IPhone name change by Land Rover CarPlay

Every time I connect my phone to my car it increments the name with a number, “iPhone (3).” I have two phones (both 13 Pro max) that have unique names and it does it to both of them. If I delete the (n) the phone still works with CarPlay but next time it will change the device name again.

Is this a Bug with CarPlay, Land Rover, or iOS?

Hello Applex1999,

You mentioned that both the iPhone 13 Pro Max devices have unique names. When changing the names for the device, did you follow these steps: Change the name of your iPhone - Apple Support? If not start there.

If so, Restart your iPhone - Apple Support. We know this sounds like a simple step, but sometimes a fresh restart can correct unusual behavior that pops up.

Do you use CarPlay in any other vehicles? If so, does the same problem exhibit itself there? This will help isolate the problem to the iPhone or the vehicle itself. (Though since it is happening with two different iPhones, that usually indicates the issue is related to the automobile itself.)

We hope this helps to isolate the problem.

Cheers!

We understand

Next, follow the steps listed here including the step for updating your car firmware to see if they resolve the issue: If you need help with CarPlay - Apple Support

"Make sure that your iPhone has the latest version of iOS. If your iPhone is updated to the latest version of iOS, follow these steps — checking CarPlay after each step:

  1. Check your connection to your CarPlay stereo:
    • If you have a wired connection, try connecting again with a different USB cable to a different USB port if you have one.
    • If you have a wireless connection, make sure that Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are enabled under Settings > Wi-Fi and Settings > Bluetooth.
  1. If CarPlay doesn't activate automatically, look for the CarPlay logo on your car's display.
  2. Restart your iPhone and your car.
  3. Make sure that Siri is on.
  4. If your iPhone isn't detected by CarPlay, make sure that CarPlay isn't restricted. Go to Settings > Screen Time > Content & Privacy Restrictions, tap Allowed Apps and make sure that CarPlay is enabled.
  5. Go to Settings > General > CarPlay, tap your car, then tap Forget This Car. Then set up CarPlay again.
  6. Make sure that your CarPlay stereo is using the latest firmware from the car manufacturer. Check your car's manual for more information.

If you still have issues connecting to CarPlay, contact Apple Support."

We hope this helps.

Cheers!
