Apple Wallet not letting me use my regular debit card

I am having issues with my Apple wallet. It’s not letting me use my regular debit card that I’ve been using since I’ve had my iPhone. I purchased a gift card to see if that would work and it keeps saying the same thing that there are issues with the card. I do not know what I’m doing wrong

Looks like a conversation with your financial institution.

"Is your card active or expired?"

Basically, you need to know the status of the card on file and correct it.

When redeeming a gift card, the amount will be credited to your Apple ID balance and you can set your Apple ID balance as your default payment.

If you have add funds to your Apple ID balance, it would take about 1 to 3 business days.
