Airpods pro become mono when opening garageband

I recently bought the new macbook pro 14'' and was excited to play with the 'full version' of GarageBand. I connected my AirPods pro (I have owned them for like 2 years) to my macbook and opened up garageBand and everything was perfectly fine, until a few days after.

I opened up Garageband again and to my surprise, everything that came out of the AirPods was mono. I tried to change things in the preferences (GarageBand) but nothing worked. My entire macbook also becomes mono, so when I have GarageBand open, my Spotify and youtube just becomes mono until I quit garageband.

I have searched on the internet and have found that none to nobody are experiencing these issues. The only thing I have found was this reddit post but that wasn't much help.

I really want to know how to fix this cause I now have to grab my Bose headphones every time and with that it does work stereo. Is this a garageBand issue? An AirPods issue or just the operating system?

Hi there,

I think I have solved the issue. I tried to use safe mode on my mac but even that didn't work and then I tried the old 'delete and re-install' trick and it worked. I deleted GarageBand and re-installed it. After connecting my AirPods Pro I opened up a GarageBand file and played it and it worked to my surprising!

I didn't try the guest mode so I can't say if that would have also been a solution.

Thank you anyway for your fast response and trying to help me.

Hi Afresh-Oerdi,

Welcome to Apple Support Communities. We understand that you're having an issue with the audio playback through your AirPods Pro when GarageBand is open. We'd like to help.

So far, it sounds like you've isolated this to the AirPods Pro since your Bose headphones work as expected. Let's see if this continues while in safe more or a text user account. This can show if the issue is with specific settings in your user account or if it's system wide.
