Not recording my steps

I always use my watch at work, but I keep it in my pocket so it doesn't get damaged.

It always recorded my steps while in my pocket, but ever since I updated it to version 8.7 it stopped recording my steps unless it was on my wrist.

I contacted support, but they didn't help. They said it wasn't supposed to measure steps while in my pocket, but it did, and now it doesn't. Any ideas?

The sensors will only work if you wear your Apple Watch on the top of your wrist.

That is a quote from this page;
