Family sharing photos above limit

Hi, we are looking at removing one of the adults from my shared icloud+ subscription, there is around 100GB of photos which is consumed as part of the service. If the adult leaves the family group, do they have a period of time to set up their own iCloud account and storage to keep their photos? Or is any photos over the default (5GB) limit deleted?

As indicated in a previous post, a sometimes discussed grace period is not in Apple's official documentation, therefore it is up to the person if they wish to risk losing the photos.

Each Apple ID person has their own 5 GB of storage. In this case the simple solution is for the person leaving to subscribe to a higher level of storage before leaving the family group. Even if you are in a family group you can have an individual subscription as well. Apple usually just cancels it when you join a family since it normally doesn't make sense to have one.

The adult should have his/her own iCloud account already, as it's necessary to even participate in Family Sharing.

As for the photos, the adult has some time (previously 28 days, but now it's not specified) to set up enough storage to keep them all. If your iCloud storage is over-full, you cannot upload more items to iCloud. Purchases initiated by the adult leaving will be kept, but purchases by the rest of the family will not. The leaving adult will have the choice to re-buy them or delete them from the device.
