Setting the User Code for RICOH Aficio MP C 4000

Hi guys, initially I had trouble setting my office network printer. But the thread at http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2235451 helped a lot. Now I am still stuck as the office uses "user codes" for each of the staff but when I tried to set it up, i couldn't punch in any numbers as only 4 options were presented ie nos from 1001-1004.

I might be wrong but it seems to me that the user codes could be hardcoded in a text file somewhere. Question is how do I do that?

Thanks

Macbook Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.4)

Hello and welcome to Apple Discussions.

Looking at the Ricoh web site, the C4000 appears to be using a Fiery print controller. We also use Fiery controllers on our Canon copiers and with the latest drivers for Mac OS X 10.6, there is a Fiery Features menu and within this menu we have the option to enter a user code and password. This menu is located under the Job Info > Job Notes section. Maybe you have something similar with the Ricoh - Fiery driver? I can see that the driver is 30Meg so I'd prefer not to download the file just to check if the menus are similar. If you cannot find the menu that lets you enter the user codes then please reply and I will download the driver and check the menus available.

You must be using the pxlmono drivers mentioned in the other thread. I have a script that will help you change the user codes for those drivers. You can download it at http://webpages.charter.net/mbroughtn/beta/RicohUserCodes.zip. Just follow the directions.

PAHU, most of the Ricoh brands printer have an optional PostScript module. Ricoh does provide drivers on their site or are included with OS X 10.6 that work with the PostScript module. Those drivers do have a place to manually enter the user code.

In this case, it appears that the posted does not have the PostScript module installed and is using the pxlmono drivers from OpenPrinting.org. The pxlmono drivers do not have the capability to manually type in a user code. They are hard coded in the PPD. The script I have will help them change one of the hard coded user codes to their own user code.

Thanks for the information Matt. When I checked the Ricoh Australia web site the download links for the MP C4000 showed Commmand Workstation and other Fiery options, so I incorrectly assumed that this was what the OP was using with the copier. Had I cared to read through the posting he linked to I would have seen that he was using pxlmono...

so ive read and done everything on this feed. i also noticed that this question was marked at answered but it doesnt seem like the answer should be to hook into another printer.

im trying to print to my office printer, Ricoh aficio mp c5000, and im so close i can taste it but i must be missing something.
ive called applecare, ricoh, downloaded wayyy too many drivers, done everything in this feed and still nothing... well not exactly.
when i hit print the printer wakes up and makes noise but it doesnt pickup any paper or actually print. i can hear things startup and start spinning but nothing prints.

i know that for all the pc's that work on this printer, have to print in black and white or otherwise enter a Valid Access for color. I dont even see the option of valid access in the print settings.
also
i saw an option of finisher, option tray, upper internal tray, and internal shift tray. would those settings play a part as to why im not printing (using the Ricoh Aficio MP C5000 PXL driver)

Please help
