mail.com with apple mail

I'm trying to get my mail.com email to work with Apple mail. I don't know if I'm doing this right. I create a new email account, enter my account data, it tries to connect, but fails. Am I doing this right? I'm running an old iMac with 10.11.6, Thanks.

I have used Apple Mail on my 2007 iMac (OS 10.11.6) for several years but a recent issue requiring me to replace the logicboard left Apple Mail asking for my password. I am one of the many who migrated my Verizon mail to AOL and had no real issues afterward. I have followed the Apple and AOL helps to the letter but Mail will simply not accept my password in order to add the AOL account to Apple Mail. I have been using the browser for access to my AOL account but Apple Mail is better suited to my needs. I am not able to get my mac mail on my laptop to connect to my godaddy outlook email account for my website. I added my account in my mac mail on my laptop but it isn't downloading or sending any mail. I can get mail on my ipad & iphone but not on my macbook pro from microsoft exchange.

Apple Mail will not connect to gmail MacOS Ventura 13.4 - Using Apple Mail - I have several personal Gmail accounts that work fine. My employer provided email will not "go on line" in Apple Mail. I've uninstalled, rebooted and reinstalled and still will not connect. The installation process validates via Chrome without error. the account is valid and can access via webmail. Working fine on other devices as well. This seems to be a very specific Apple Mail issue. I cannot be the only user to encounter this. Yes...I've read the generic KB articles on connecting to other email clients. Our system admin is useless and will not help with any Mac issues.

Mail is so old on that Mac OS, the defacto account styles of IMAP and POP are the only ones that have remained consistent. Get the settings for IMAP if you want the email to appear on multiple devices without duplication.

I did notice that, but unfortunately I don't know what any of this means. Can you perhaps be more specific as to how to do what you're describing within the accounts setting on Mail? Thanks for the help!
