If that is what happened, then that may have short-circuited the remote and ruined the battery. Additionally, corrosion may happen to the circuitry with permanent damage. It may not be salvageable. You may need to buy a replacement remote.
If it isn’t that severe, then maybe try to restart the Siri Remote, or reset the Apple Remote (aluminum) [replace battery].
