i am trying to update my macOS from 10.12 but i do not see the update in app store; says nothing is available. is my mac too old now? its my work computer so it would be nice to get a new updated laptop finally.

Back up your data, check your applications for compatibility, click here, and then on the download link for High Sierra, Mojave, Catalina, or Big Sur. They're full-version upgrades and won't appear in the Updates list.
Catalina and newer won't run 32-bit software; download and use Go64 as well as using the first link above.
