You’re prolly headed for a repair (as a guess), but follow the Apple recovery sequence.

...So that original battery is likely to be very weak – if not from use, then from sheer age.

You’ll need to restore it. That’s the same as this sequence: If you forgot your iPhone passcode - Apple Support
YEs, original battery.. was working about a year ago, then sat in a drawer for a year, and this problem... If they are easy/cheap to change, I would consider it... I use this phone only as an iPOD and Streaming service... no cellular required
