iPad won’t sleep with Kindle app open.

My iPad does not go into sleep mode when the Kindle app is open. This results in the battery dying much too fast. What can I do to get it to automatically go into sleep mode when I put my device down or fall asleep while reading?

Was also having trouble with alarms on iPhone not communicating with Apple Watch before noticing iPad would no longer go into sleep mode while using Kindle app. Could be coincidental? SOLUTION: Delete Kindle app, reboot iPad, reinstall app after reboot. Worked on this for days before resolution.
