All my Intel based Macintosh computers have had a keyboard shortcut for shutting down the computer, they do not seem to work on this M1 machine with a touch-ID power button.
Is there any keyboard method for shutting down (without having to mouse up to the Apple menu and choose shutdown from the drop down menu)?

Following key combinations could shutdown your MacBook Pro.
Having tried most of those, I can attest that the touch ID (power) key on this laptop does not function (in combination with other keys or alone) to initiate a system shutdown.
(If I have the a Terminal (command line) session open, the "shutdown -h now" command does work, but that was not what I was looking for.)
A simple "Shutdown" or "Halt" command from terminal should work.
PS: and there is no 'eject' key (likely because there is no CD/DVD player in this system).
