How do I type an asterisk (*) on the iPhone virtual keyboard?

The subject line says it all. There is no * on the iPhone virtual keyboard. Or is there?

Press the "123" key, then the "#+=" key, and you'll see the asterisk on the top row.

bottom left hit the ".?123", bottom left hit the "#+=",top row 8th from left.
