I moved to a different country and Siri is so confused.

I moved from the US to the UK a year ago, and Siri and my iPhone are still having a bit if trouble.

All my US contacts in Messages use iPhones, and our texts are always blue. Their numbers are entered correctly with a +1 and area code. Everything there is set up correctly. But if I want to send my mom a link to a webpage, for example, and I select the share button, the shortcut to send my mom a message shows up after any airdrop devices, so I select her little emoji. The "New Message" screen comes up with the link and her name is green for a text message. If I select the share button & instead of going with the recommended contacts shortcut but click on Messages, if I type her name in it's now blue. Same contact, same person (only one of her in my phone contacts) but one way tries to send her a text and the other wants to send her an iMessage. How do I get this to where my most used contacts work in that shortcut?

Also, when my mom texts me and I have my iPods in, Siri always says "Someone with a 620 area code text...." Even though my mom is in my phone with her number, Siri does not recognize the text is from her. This has to be somewhat related if shortcuts tries to send a text to her and Siri doesn't know it's a text from someone in my contacts, right?

Siri does this for several other people, but not everyone.

I've tried signing in and out of iCloud. Turning off my contacts sync and back on in iCloud.

And now with the latest update my phone does not give me any notifications. Not for texts, not the MBL app, not Twitter or anything. Notifications have been turned off and back an and I haven't had a notification on my screen in weeks. Probably another issue but like I said, my phone has been confused and has not adapted to living in a different country very well. I would like to figure out what I need to do to get this all worked out before I buy another phone this fall. Thanks for any tips or tricks you may have!

Hi katiejonesy,

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities. It sounds like you've done a great job trying to resolve these issues on your own. If you haven't already, make sure that your settings are correct here:

  1. Settings > General > Date & Time
  2. Settings > General > Language & Region

If the issues persist, try restarting your iPhone. This simple step resets connection and can resolve many unexpected behaviors. Restart your iPhone - Apple Support

Have a nice day!
