Issues with App Store connection and Apple ID Sign Out on MacBook Pro

Hey ya'll, I was trying to download google chrome and when I dragged the download to the App Store, I kept seeing a message that said "cannot connect to App Store."

After researching, it was recommended to sign out of my Apple ID, then sign back in. Unfortunately, I can't log out of my Apple ID. I saw another article that said to turn off screen time, then try to sign out of Apple ID. I did that, and still can't sign out.

I've also restarted twice. Any help is truly appreciated! I just need to download chrome lol

Are you running any anti - virus programs? Using a VPN?

If the problem is still there, try booting into the Safe Mode using your normal account.  Disconnect all peripherals except those needed for the test. Shut down the computer and then power it back up after waiting 10 seconds. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the shift key and continue to hold it until the gray Apple icon and a progress bar appear. The boot up is significantly slower than normal. This will reset some caches, forces a directory check, and disables all startup and login items, among other things. When you reboot normally, the initial reboot may be slower than normal. If the system operates normally, there may be 3rd party applications which are causing a problem. Try deleting/disabling the third party applications after a restart by using the application un-installer or by using the developer’s uninstall instructions. For each disable/delete, you will need to restart if you don't do them all at once.

Hey Eric, sorry for the delay and thank you! I'm not running any anti-virus and not connected to VPN. I did as you instructed and still unable to connect to the App Store.

I'm sure the problem is that I purchased my Mac from my previous employer. They wiped the laptop and it's been fine, but not being able to get anything downloaded is a real struggle.

I'm not sure if I just need to factory reset it? If it helps, no one but me has used the laptop. It came new to me and I purchased it when I resigned.
