If you were to toggle the silent switch on the side with the screen on, is there an alert that pops up? If so, it could be that the phone isn’t frozen and rather it’s the screen not taking your touch as input.

If this is the case, do you have any screen protectors applied? A thick one could render the touchscreen unusable.
