When I go to subscriptions on my iphone10 and click on the subscription I want to cancel there is NO button that says "Cancel Subscription" Is there another way? It is a 3rd party app for casting images from phone to TV

You might need to scroll down to find the Cancel Subscription button. If there is no Cancel button or you see an expiration message in red text, the subscription is already canceled.
Also, a subscription that is already cancelled will typically have wording in fine print similar to "Expires on [date]" rather than "Renews on [date].”

That sounds like it renewed, then was cancelled after it renewed (i.e., it won't renew again next August).

Thank you. its a bit confusing because I see the red text and it shows Expires August in 2023. So I assumed it didn't cancel because of the future expiration date a year from now.
