You have to TOUCH and HOLD on the message that you would like to specifically reply to as shown here 👉 Reply to specific messages on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch

Can you describe what happens when you follow the procedure to Reply to Specific Messages? Can you post a screen shot?
