iMac as monitor?
I have iMac 21,5inch late 2009 3.06GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, ATI Radeon HD 4670 256 MB
Can I use this as a monitor for a new Mac mini with the M1 chip?
Or should I just get a new iMac?
iMac, macOS 10.13

Will probably just go with a new iMac.
⚠️ Whoa! I believe you are about to make a very expensive mistake.
No new iMac can Do Target Display Mode , and no M1 Mac supports TDM either. Start your research by reading the very limited groups of Mac that participate in TDM and macOS limitations in this Apple article:
https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204592
Ignore 99% of the junk written about TDM on the internet. "Publishing" on the web requires neither an editor, research skills, nor ethics of accuracy!

No you cannot. You could purchase Luna Display and that may support it, however if I were in your shoes I just buy an external display for the new Mac. This is much less expensive, easier to setup and much much more reliable.
Thank you
I was afraid of that, kind of a shot in the dark.

Thanks! Perhaps you assumed that I already owned a Mac Mini. I was just thinking about options to upgrade my 2009 iMac. I would replace it with a new iMac. That seems like the reasonable way to go.
