How do I put my phone storage on iCloud

how can I transfer my phone storage to my iCloud? I pay extra for the iCloud storage, and it still says device is full. Why doesn’t it all just store automatically? I feel like it did before now it doesn’t.

iPhone 11 Pro Max, iOS 14

you cannot really 'transfer your iPhone storage to iCloud'.. iCloud is more of a syncing service..

If you go to Settings > General > iPhone Storage, what does it show taking up the majority of your space? Photos?

Set up and use iCloud Photos - Apple Support

It likely shows some recommendations to save storage space in that menu area as well.

I only have like 45 GB of photos and I usually buy an iPhone that has plenty of storage space.. So I've never had a reason to do this, or know if it makes a lot of sense.. But in Photos, you CAN select pictures, tap the square with an upward arrow, scroll down to Save to Files, then select iCloud Drive and put pictures in a folder.. Then you could delete those photos from the Photos app and the Recently Deleted album and they would still be in iCloud Drive. But then you don't have the nice organization of albums etc that the Photos app has when you want to look at those pictures...

Or if you have a Mac, you could transfer the photos to your computer, use iCloud photos on the computer but not on your iPhone.. delete them from your phone. but then you wouldn't have access to all those photos from your iPhone.
