IPad horizontal scroll direction wrong with bluetooth mouse or magic keyboard

Hi,

I set my scrolling direction to normal, i.e. deactivated the “natural direction” option in the settings. Vertical scrolling works fine like this on all devices. But when I use the trackpad in the magic keyboard or connect my magic mouse via bluetooth, the vertical scrolling direction is opposite to the direction on my Macbook Pro. This is particularly annoying when working with Mail, as instead of marking an e-mail as unread, it deletes it directly (moving in other direction will do this). How to fix this? I guess it is a programming bug.

Thanks,

Nino

if you uncheck natural scrolling, everything is reversed. However, on my Mac I have "natural scrolling" deactivated and swiping right on my mails in Mail will get me the "mark as unread" function. So here on MacOS vertical scrolling is reversed.

Are you suggesting that disabling natural scrolling reverses both vertical scrolling and horizontal swipe? If so, this might well be a bug.

Yes, exactly this. I'm also certain it's a bug.

Thank you, that is very helpful! Will do it.

Have you tried swapping the mouse scrolling direction in iPad settings?

When using a touch interface - such as your iPad screen or Magic Trackpad - an upward swipe of the finger will scroll a page upwards on the screen.

By contrast, a mouse wheel will logically work in the opposite sense - in that rolling the mouse wheel downwards with cause the screen to scroll upwards. To cite an analogy, consider rolling cylinder (pen, pencil) downwards on a paper page; you roll the pencil (your mouse wheel) in the direction that you wish to travel.

Thank you, yes I tried it. And I can confirm that the directions for horizontal scrolling are reversed to Macbook Pro/MacOS.

Natural scrolling setting:

vertical scrolling: moving your two fingers on the trackpad upwards in Mail will scroll the list down ("natural" because you push it upwards)

horizontal scrolling: moving your two fingers to the right will move the mail to the right, i.e. mark as unread.

This is annoying, as I mostly work with Mail etc. on my Macbook and when using my iPad with touchpad on the Magic keyboard, I delete a mail when I subconsciously do the same gesture. I think it is just a wrong programming, i.e. vertical directions should be reversed on IPadOS/iOS.

Thanks,

Nino
