I had an iPhone 8 and just bought a 12. Power cord for 12 has a different connection to the electric outlet than 8. the end that goes into the phone is the same on both. Will the 12 cord charge the 8? Will the 8 cord charge the 12? Will using one cord for the other phone cause any damage?

Hello ~ You can use your old cord and block to charge your new iPhone. It will cause no damage. Apple doesn’t ship blocks with new iPhones.

Hello again ~ You would have to ask Apple that question. As a fellow forum user like you…I only know that Apple states it is to reduce our carbon footprint by using the blocks we have. If you need another you will need to buy it.
