macOS Monterey and Raid0

I know that the older versions of macOS worked very good and super fast with Raid 0 Drives (Mojave). Later OSes thow do not allow user to install or upgrade onto those Drives. Is it so, or i do something wrong in the hole procedure? Thanks

No the Disk array works fine under Mojave, but it does not allow (later versions of macOSes) to be installed on Raid disks starting from Catalina. The only way is to install the OS on an external SSD and then clone it on the Raid disk. This is what i did with Mojave also. The problem with this procedure is that the APFS file system after Catalina an so on is that APFS does not allow the cloning of the boot sector with any programe (Carbon cloner, Super Duper or Disk Utility). So the only way to upgrade is to cancel the Raid array. Unfortunately !

No, you cannot upgrade macOS which boots from a software RAID drive, at least not directly. For a while you could clone the drive to an external drive, upgrade macOS, then clone it back. This cloning process has gotten more difficult with Monterey. Plus I thought someone on these forums (or perhaps a co-worker) had mentioned that it was no longer possible to even do this with one of the later macOS releases as the ability to boot macOS from a software RAID.

Nick Arkoudakis,

If macOS is not allowing you to do so, it might not be possible to upgrade directly using a disk set. The link provide has some resources with setting it up again after you've done an upgrade if you need to. The resource goes all the way to macOS Monterey, which is the latest version.

If it's not letting you, it might be required setting up after an upgrade, unless there's a specific error message related to issues with the disk set itself. If there is an error, try repairing the disk set: Repair a disk in a mirrored disk set using Disk Utility on Mac - Apple Support

Take care.
