3rd gen airpods press and hold not available

Recently purchased 3rd gen airpods. I’ve connected them as per instructions. However, when I go to change the press and hold settings, they are just not there. Most other airpod options are available. I’ve unpaired then paired again, changed my airpod name, I have the most up to date update but still no joy. Any help here is appreciated. Thanks

Hi, Craigypickle.

Those options are not available on the 3rd generation AirPods. For reference, this article shows which models support those customizations: Change the settings of your AirPods and AirPods Pro.

Cheers.

There are no touch controls on an Airpods 3.

They have a force sensor that you squeeze.

Pause, skip, and adjust volume with your AirPods and AirPods Pro - Apple Support

Control audio with your AirPods Pro or AirPods (3rd generation)

  • To play and pause audio, press the force sensor on the stem of an AirPod. To resume playback, press again.
  • To skip forward, double-press the force sensor.
  • To skip back, triple-press the force sensor.
  • To turn the volume up or down, say "Hey Siri," then say something like "Turn up the volume" or "Turn down the volume." Or drag the volume slider in the app that you're listening to, on the Lock Screen, or in Control Center. You can also open Now Playing on your Apple Watch and turn the Digital Crown to make your AirPods Pro or AirPods (3rd generation) louder or quieter.

AirPods Pro let you control how much you hear your surroundings. Press and hold the force sensor to switch between Active Noise Cancellation and Transparency mode. You can select which modes the press-and-hold action switches between:

  1. On your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, go to Settings > Bluetooth.
  2. Tap the More Info button  next to your AirPods in the list of devices.
  3. Tap Noise Cancellation, Transparency, or Off.

You can use Siri with your AirPods to ask questions and make phone calls. Siri can also control your music and check on your AirPods. To set an AirPod Pro to use Siri, press and hold the force sensor.
