Transparent White Line Across iPad Screen

My brother has a 4th Generation iPad Air. One of the side speakers/mics was accidentally penetrated, which caused a transparent white line that is about a quarter of the screens size to appear. Its not causing any specific issues, however I was wondering if there was a way to fix this without having to pay for a repair.
