Voice text messaging

We'd be happy to help out. Sounds like you're unable to use your voice to send a text.

To clarify, are you using Siri to try to do so or are you just using dictation by tapping on the microphone in the Messages app while within a thread with your onscreen keyboard up?

If this is a dictation issue, make sure you have Dictation enabled under settings > General > Keyboards > Enable Dictation. For more info, check out: Use Dictation on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

That would be correct that audio messages are for iMessages directly from the Messages app. You can share Voice Memos through regular text messages though: Make a recording in Voice Memos on iPhone - Apple Support
