The update attempt failed (for reasons unknown) - and the iPad indicates that it must be restored:

took mine into Tech support shop guy there reset it for me … will not be putting any more upgrades from apple on my iPad or phone as apparently they are for newer models of Apple goods and just mess up older models

But don't say anything. Charge all night don't and hard reset don't work.
