Airdrop from MacBook issue

I can airdrop from my iphone to my Mac no problem. But, trying to go the other way isn't working. I click the item I want to drop, my iphone icon pops up, but it won't let me select it. I also cannot click the cancel button there, and have to click esc instead to make the window go away. I've checked everything in tutorials. My phone shows as available in the Bluetooth section.
