If you are trying to connect to an external monitor with an HDMI connection, then you need Apple's Lightning to HDMI digital AV adapter, found here.

I am trying to connect an iPad sixth generation to an external display, and wondering which Apple adapter device is the appropriate one. It is of course a lightning connection on the iPad.
