If you've upgraded to macOS Monterey on a Mac with Apple silicon or a Mac with the Apple T2 Security Chip, follow the steps to erase all content and settings instead of the steps in this article. 

For any other Mac or macOS, follow the steps below.


Is you MacBook Pro a Mac with Apple silicon or a Mac with the T2 Security Chip? Click on the blue links above if you need more information about which Macs those are.

If you Mac is not one of those, skip step 1 in that support document and go to the steps below step 1.
