icons rendering slow with Monterey

I am surprised how slow icons are rendering in finder. It is so slow, I even manage to take a screenshot while in process.

I never had this problem before with these same folders full of music folders with cover images as icons, not even on my 2010 Macbook with 10.6.8, my 2015 Macbook with High Sierra or my last MacMini 2018 with Mojave, they always showed INSTANTLY even during scrolling.

I am now using the MacBook Air 2022 M2 with 16GB 1TB and Monterey 12.5.1 and for the first time, I have to wait until the folder icons get rendered!

No, reboot and shutdown are no solution.

Files are on the internal SSD.

Scrolling through the folder only shows standard icons, the icon rendering stays far behind. Like I said, even on a 2010 Macbook with Snow Leopard and the files on an external HDD it was able to scroll though that folder showing all the individual cover icons while scrolling.

certain system caches get cleared and rebuilt, including dynamic loader cache, font cache, etc., third party system modifications and system accelerations are disabled.

Login and test. Reboot  as normal and test.  Caches get rebuilt automatically.

a  reboot will put it back to normal mode.

This test will tell you if third party interference; extensions etc are not loaded in safe boot mode.

OK, I tried safe mode. Icon buildup delay is the same.
Also another, fresh user, same result.

hmmm... seems most unusual

Are these local files or you are loading remote images...

Did you try rebooting?

restart or shut down your Mac

If your download speed is suspect, try getting on a faster Network and compare your results.

Once the images are loaded into memory—is there still your issue.

Well, unless I miss something

He asked:

"Did you try rebooting? restart or shut down your Mac"

I said that changes nothing.

He suggested:

"If your download speed is suspect, try getting on a faster Network and compare your results. Once the images are loaded into memory—is there still your issue."

I answered, the files are on the internal SSD.

Therefore this has nothing to do with download speed and networks to get them loaded into memory.

No related problems found on diagnostics or insight. This is a fresh installed OS and I have another Mac with Monterey showing the same problem.

Well this seems an unusual situation as you have implicated a second Mac ...

I am afraid I have nothing to add unless you supply the etrecheck report as linked above for examination...
