AirPlay access for the receiving device would have options for a one time (per device) 4 digit pairing code, or else a password. That password may be (unknown) default initially, and can be changed on the AirPlay receiving device (Apple TV box), or that requirement can be disabled.

A pairing code would be displayed on the TV screen. A password will not be displayed, and has to be known to the user.
