Mail/other apps think hard drive full, but Finder says plenty of available space. How to fix?
The other day, Mail.app and Capture One Pro started telling me that the apps could not complete some operations because there was insufficient hard drive space/hard drive full. Indeed, Disk Utility says there is only less than 35GB free space on the internal drive, but the Finder reports 216 GB available (80 GB purgeable).
I found only one other report of this exact problem, but the fix there didn't work for me. I've restarted in Safe Mode and installed the latest OS update (12.5.1), but I can't seem to get both information sources to match. Deleting a bunch of files only helped a little.
Any ideas on how to clean up the hard drive so I have a useable system again?
