DVD to MBP then to large display

What hardware/software do I need to rip a DVD to my MacBook pro then play it from my MBP to a large monitor via HDMI out? My MBP does not have a DVD drive.

Windows, Windows 6

First if there are DRM issues (such as a commercial DVD), you won't be able to rip it because the converter apps will not do it. Second, if it is a homemade movie, you'd need converter software, a DVD burner/player and the requisit cables. You could then plug your Mac into the TV.

This sounds like it would be much easier to just use the DVD you have, get a DVD player, and hook that up to the TB.

Playing Burned Files:

A. Manufacturer Restrictions:

Not all manufacturers are okay with burned disks --Sony is one of them. So, playing a burned disk on a Sony model may do nothing.

B. Play with QuickTime Player:

On a computer, for file formats such as MOV and WMV and MP4, one option is to use QuickTime Player. Get it here: Download QuickTime Player - Apple Support - App Store
