If your iPad is unresponsive, connect your iPad to its Power Adapter and allow the iPad to charge undisturbed - preferably overnight. While still connected to external power, try a forced-restart:

  • On an iPad with a Home button: Press and hold the top button and the Home button at the same time. When the Apple logo appears, release both buttons.
  • On other iPad models: Press and quickly release the volume up button, press and quickly release the volume down button, then press and hold the top button. When the Apple logo appears, release the button.

Note:  If iPad still doesn’t turn on, or if it gets stuck during start up, see the Apple Support article If your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch won’t turn on or is frozen. Or if your iPad isn’t working correctly after you restart it, see the iPad Support website.

If you continue to experience difficulties, you will need to seek assistance directly from from Apple Support. You can contact the Support Team using the Get Support link at top-right of this page. Alternatively, you can initiate and manage your support cases using the excellent Apple Support App. If not already installed on your iPad, the App can be downloaded from the App Store:

You might also visit the Genius Bar at your local Apple Store or Apple Authorised Service Provider (AASP) - where the technicians will be able to test and assess your iPad:

Thank you for helping me. I have tried all of those things and it does not turn on. When I took it to an Apple technician store they told me they could not fix it in a way that would allow me to keep the data. They also told me if I sent it into Apple they would tell me the same thing. I’m wondering if you know of any way I could get it to turn on so I have the data. I have tried to plug it into my computer but the computer won’t recognize it. I really do appreciate your help. Again this is for a legal matter and the data is important.

iPad and iPadOS is, by way of system architecture design, fully secure.

Your iPad has an encrypted file system - the only copy of the encryption key that permits this data to be accessed is stored within the iPad’s built-in security chip (the Secure Enclave).

Your iPad Passcode is used to unlock the Secure Enclave, which in turn releases the encryption keys to the running Operating System; with the encryption keys, the iPad can then decrypt and access your data. If the iPad cannot be powered-on and your Passcode successfully entered - any locally locally stored data cannot be accessed or recovered.

Without the encryption keys, your data remains permanently beyond reach.

As such, the information you have already received from Apple is quite correct. Unless you have a separate pre-existing copy of your essential data, anything stored on your iPad has been lost. There is no workaround.
