"Messaging on the computer: I'm a new to apple devices and I'd like to access messaging through my browser like I could on my previous phone. Can anyone help me figure out how to do that? I'm figuring a trillion-dollar company could keep up with their competitors in at least that aspect."

About Messages on Safari:
A. Use Messages App:
You'd use the Messages app for seeing messages. So, once messages is enabled on your iPhone along with your Apple computer, you'd proceed from there with retrieving messages and sending messages. All would officially sync through iCloud, meaning you'd have to be logged in to the same Apple ID on the computer, along with the iPhone. See here: Go Here: Set up Messages on iPhone - Apple Support
B. Use your Carrie's Site:
You can log in to your Carrier's site, seeing if you see them on there, but sending them may not be an option.
