You get to choose between filling the screen vertically (lose content on the left and right edges) or seeing the whole width of the original video source (with black borders top and bottom). On a small screen like the iPhone it is often better to fill the screen vertically (zoom in) to make the things in the center of the picture larger for easier viewing.
