Late 2012 iMac as monitor for 2021 M1 MacPro?

Can I use my late 2012 iMac (High Sierra) as external monitor for 2021 Macbook Pro M1?

I'm reading conflicting things online... What cables do I need?

No. The very limited specs for Target Display Mode (TDM) are publicly available in this Apple support article:


Use your iMac as a display with target display mode - Apple Support


Many web "journalists" are lacking in the ability or ethics to do proper research.


No M1 Mac can use a TDM-supported iMac as a monitor.
